Moments Matter for Moms of Young Patients

Being a parent with a child in the hospital can feel overwhelming. Your support shows moms they’re not alone, whether they find themselves unexpectedly in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or facing a difficult diagnosis for their child or teen.

Meet some moms who found hope and healing through world-class care at Children’s National Hospital.

Crystal

“I had my moments where I cried and felt like it was all too much — juggling being in the hospital while taking care of a toddler at home while also helping my 8-year-old with things like homework,” Crystal says. “Knowing that Hassiah’s team was taking care of us both helped. Children’s National saves lives, but they also build relationships to do what’s best for our babies and kids — and their moms.”

Robin

“We stayed at the hospital after Mills’ birth and the first of two surgeries at 3 weeks,” Robin says. “For me, that was my experience of being a mother. That was all I knew. Living in the hospital didn’t change how much we loved each other.”

Milena

“Compassionate care at Children’s National gave me hope,” Milena says. “The nurses were like family. They listened and talked to me. I would always say, ‘I’m fine, just make her better.’ But they made sure I was OK too.”

Yoana

“Nurses offered hugs and tissues,” Yoana says. “They told me it was OK to cry. They said, ‘If you weren’t crying, we’d be worried.’ That brought a smile to my face through all the tears.”
